Our Story
the good fuel company
What we do
Here at Good Fuel near Barnstaple, North Devon, we supply commercial and domestic customers with a range of sustainable and recycled biomass heating fuels. These eco-friendly wood and biomass fuel products include hardwood briquettes, heat logs, wood pellets and woodchip – all of which are clean, green and cost effective for use in wood burning stoves. Our products are ideal for wood burning stoves.
Sourcing Good Fuel is only part of the equation. Good Fuel also needs to be easy to use. Our aim is to make burning Good Fuel as simple as using traditional fuels, like oil or gas.
At Good Fuel we can provide one-click on-line ordering, regular local deliveries or bulk deliveries on pallets for more distant customers.
our ethos
Why we do it
Quite simply, we were shocked, like so many families, about the ever-escalating cost of heating our home. We also wanted to make better use our two wood burning stoves.
So we bought lots of firewood… Of course we love the ambience of a real fire, but problems with storage and the varying quality of supply, as well as the length of time firewood took to radiate any real heat, made us wonder about the alternatives. Then we stumbled upon some recycled hardwood briquettes or ‘eco-logs‘. From the moment we lit our first briquette we were converted!
Not only do reconstituted briquettes provide a sustainable, carbon-neutral fuel by using waste material, they are just so easy to light. They’re fast to provide intense heat. And they burn slowly creating hardly any ash.
We loved wood briquettes so much – we decided to make our own. And so the Good Fuel company was born…

our process
How we do it
Ok, this bit isn’t exactly rocket science, the process of recyclying compressed sawdust logs may appear rather simple. But here at Good Fuel we think simple is beautiful – creating something we all need (heat) from something we would have previously sent to landfill.
It’s cost effective, highly efficient and provides home heating within a carbon neutral cycle. So take a look at the images below to see how we make our premium hardwood briquettes, with pride, in North Devon.
